Are you smiling on your facebook picture?

We all know what www.facebook.com is… and for those who don’t where have you been?!

We have our photos on it… whether we like it or not! Even here at Smile Essential our Practice Manager Dawn who hasn’t got a facebook account is aware that we all tag photos of her at social events, even though she doesn’t have a profile.

Facebook is ourselves in digital form, we have a status, we have a wall, we express what religion we are or not, we have a relationship status, share what we like and what we don’t like and we all have photos.

Have you been Enlightened? Its as easy as one, two, three!

We have been offering Enlighten at Smile Essential for a few years now and earlier on this year we decided to only offer Enlighten for tooth whitening. Why did we do this? Will my teeth be sensitive?
With some tooth whitening systems transient sensitivity can be a huge problem. However with the Enlighten system Smile Essential patients rarely report sensitivity problems that haven’t been resolved with the specially designed sensitive tooth serum contained as part of your package.

How long will the whitening last?
The results will last indefinitely as long as you look after your tooth whitening trays and carry out a top up one night every couple of months.

Do I have to be a Patient of Smile Essential?
No we carry out free tooth whitening consultations for everyone. Smile Essential has acheived the Gold standard from the British Bleaching Dental Society and we are the only Practice in Leicester to have been awarded this, so your in safe hands having your teeth whitened with us.

The process is very simple and generally takes 3 appointments. The first appointment is for a free consultation to check that your suitable and what your tooth whitening goals are, if you are happy we can take the impressions at this stage to make your uniquely designed tooth whitening trays. The second appointment is when the uniquely designed tooth whitening trays are fitted and then you start to whiten your teeth from home each evening for the next 2 weeks. Then on the final appointment at Smile Essential we complete in-surgery laser tooth whitening whilst you can relax and watch a DVD and then we will reveal your new Enlightened Smile. National Smile Month May 15th – June 15th 2011

A ‘smile’ has topped a poll of the most important physical features when it comes to attraction between men and women. A smile was rated highly by 56 per cent of respondents, closely followed by faces (53 per cent) and eyes (51 per cent). Dress sense, body shape, hair and height were also measured, with the latter bringing up the rear on 25 per cent. Interestingly, it was a non-physical attribute – personality – which was the clear winner of the survey. Ninety per cent of respondents rated this human attribute most important when it comes to attraction.The results have been published as part of the British Dental Health Foundation’s annual campaign – National Smile Month – now in its 35th year.

This year the theme is ‘The Smile Factor’, which aims to remind people that their mouth, teeth and smile is fundamental to all aspects of their life – whether career, personality, relationships, attraction or all-round good health. Despite the importance of smiles and teeth to everyday life, many people appear to have a poor image of the nation’s ‘Smile Factor’. The survey reveals that only 23 per cent believed that the nation had ‘good teeth’, and approaching half the population were not happy with their smile or teeth – stained or yellow teeth being the most common concern (37 per cent).

Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter, said: “As a nation we probably spend more time and money looking after our hair and the clothes we wear, rather than caring for our teeth. The survey is a great reminder that we should be giving greater attention to our teeth – not just because it improves oral health – but because it gives us the confidence to smile, which makes a major difference to our relationships, careers and overall image.“During National Smile Month, we hope everyone will consider what they can do to improve their Smile Factor. Hundreds of dental practices across the UK will be supporting the campaign and it’s an excellent time to seek their help and advice.“It’s really important to get the basics right at home as well. We recommend brushing your teeth for two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, cutting down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks, and visiting your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend. Adopting this good oral health regime can make a huge difference to a confident smile and many aspects of everyday life”, advised Dr Carter.

A lifetime of eating and drinking can have a detrimental effect on your teeth. Food and drink contains colouring that over time penetrates the tooth enamel and makes the teeth lose their original colour.
