Great Dental Review of Our Leicester Clinic

Dr Nik Patel Dental Review From Leicester Patient

I attended the Smile Essential Dental Practice for a checkup and was required to undergo treatment, which was performed with great care and skill.

Dr Patel is clearly a dental perfectionist and proud of both the work he does and the reputation that the practice has established. He was calm, approachable and answered any queries in a clear and easy to understand manner which helped me to relax during treatment.

The staff are courteous, helpful and always willing to assist- an assured team of professionals. The surgery itself is modern, superbly equipped and I always felt that I was in capable hands. I have maintained regular visits over the last couple of years and would not hesitate in recommending the practice to my friends and colleagues!

That’s disgusting!

So many germs live on your toothbrush

What has tiny bristles, lives in your bathroom and can house five of the nastiest germs, including the flu virus?

Yep you guessed it- it’s your toothbrush.

It’s sort of funny that if we dropped a bit of food on a clean(ish) kitchen floor we would throw it away not wanting to possibly subject our body to any unwanted bacteria action or for the less germ phobic may pick it up, eat it and think what the heck I’ll take my chance! However your little toothbrush lives its life in the bathroom- getting covered in not only our icky mouth germs but also gross bathroom bugs!

Did you know that viruses and bacteria can live for weeks on your toothbrush so every time you brush you could be making yourself ill.

So how can you protect yourself and your family from the perils of toothbrushing?

1) Change your toothbrush every 6 weeks, or after you or a member of the family has been ill. Germs from one person’s toothbrush can spread if they are all stored together.

2) Wash it, give your toothbrush a thorough rinse with tap water to remove debris.. Then was it in antibacterial soap or soak it for 5 minutes in a antibacterial mouthwash.

3) Don’t share your toothbrush, it is just gross.

4) Try deep cleansing your toothbrush. You can but ultraviolet light toothbrush sanitisers which nuke the nasties harboured on your toothbrush.

5) Close the lid of the toilet when you flush, to contain those nasty germs

Know when to let go of your toothbrush. If you have had it longer than 6-8 weeks, have been poorly, if it is showing signs of wear and tear then it’s time to chuck it away.

What’s it like to be a New Patient at our Leicester Dentist?

Dentist Nik Patel talking to one of his leicestershire patientsI have received dental treatment from Nik three times, the first time I had not been to see a dentist for a few years and although I am not frightened of dentists he definitely made me feel at ease and explained what was going to happen. This occasion was for a general dental check up.

The most recent treatment was for my front tooth which had been capped as a child and had to be re-done as it had disintegrated. Nik firstly made the necessary assessment and I was able to have the work completed within a week. This was completed beautifully and all my teeth were cleaned and polished in the process. Nik is a very helpful dentist and seems happy when he is working. his assistant seems happy and they both work together as a team to make dental treatment as seamless as possible.

6 Tips on having the perfect smile for your wedding

wedding tips on smiling

So your wedding day is fast approaching and you will be posing for literally hundreds of photos and probably a video or two on your wedding day. How can you flash your best smile in every one? Apparently it just takes a little practice. The ideal smile is one that shows the upper teeth and not too much of the gums. Examine your smile a couple of months before your wedding, and give these tips from Martha Stewart weddings a try

1) Tilting your head to one side as you pose. Most people don’t have perfect symmetry to their faces or smiles, your smile may be more flattering if you’re not facing the camera straight on. Look at photos of yourself and study the ones you like in order to see which angle best accentuates your smile. Remember practice makes perfect and smiling often can never be a bad thing!

2) Smile with your teeth slightly parted, about one pinky-finger-width apart, says New York cosmetic dentist Jeff Golub-Evans. “If your top and bottom teeth aren’t separated, your smile can look forced. This trick will help it seem more natural.”– we think that this is a top tip!

3) Running your tongue over your front teeth to moisten them just before the picture is snapped. All that smiling will make the teeth dehydrated and dull, so lick or sip some water to sparkle.

4) Try and wear a creamy lipstick that has some shine to it. It will reflect light and make your smile look brighter, a matte formula will absorb light and may look too dark.

5) Practice your smile in front of the mirror each day, pay attention to how much of your teeth you show, says New York City cosmetic dentist Lana Rozenberg. When you find the most complimentary look, keep practicing until you can do it without thinking.

6) This tip from New York City photographer John Dolan suggests you keep moving while being photographed so you’ll look natural in wedding portraits. Holding the same pose for every shot can make your expression appear stiff so move around a little.
